Pedro Alfonzo Perez Galdamez Sentenced For Wrong-Way Crash That Killed four Women In Winston-Salem
A man was sentenced on Tuesday after causing a wrong-way crash that claimed the lives of four women in April 2023. Pedro Alfonzo Perez Galdamez pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including four counts of second-degree murder, four counts of felony death by vehicle, and driving while impaired. He was sentenced to serve between 314 and 402 months in prison.
The crash occurred just after 3 a.m. on April 16, 2023, when Galdamez was driving the wrong way on US 52 near the US 421 interchange. Upon arrival, officers found a head-on collision near the 3rd Street bridge involving a Nissan Sentra.
Three of the Sentra’s passengers—Blanca Estela Castillo Bernal, Santa Hernandez Bernadino, and Estefania Hernandez—were declared dead at the scene. The fourth passenger, Gregoria Noyola Jiminez, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Galdamez, who sustained only minor injuries, had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.26, more than three times the legal limit. He had been drinking at La Mansion bar before driving in the wrong direction on the highway.
Although Galdamez initially provided a false name, an investigation revealed his true identity as Pedro Alfonzo Perez Galdamez. Further inquiries revealed he had been using a fraudulent identity for nearly 20 years and was not licensed to drive at the time of the incident. Officers found a 2017 El Salvador-issued passport with his real name during a search of his residence.
