Ecuadorian footballer Marco Angulo, a promising young talent for FC Cincinnati and the Ecuadorian national team, tragically passed away at the age of 22 following a car accident on October 7, 2024.
Angulo was in his home country of Ecuador, on loan to Liga Pro leaders LDU Quito at the time of the crash, which occurred in the capital city of Quito. The incident also claimed the lives of two others, Roberto Cabezas Simisterra and Victor Charcopa Nazareno, leaving a deep sense of grief within the football community.
Angulo had joined FC Cincinnati from Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle in 2023, quickly becoming an integral part of the team. During his time with Cincinnati, he played 24 matches, starting in 9 of them, and registered an assist in a key 3-0 victory against Toronto FC in June 2023. His ability to read the game and contribute to the midfield made him a valuable asset for the team, and his potential seemed limitless.
On loan at LDU Quito, Angulo continued to develop, earning 11 appearances and 3 starts during the 2024 season. His dedication and passion for the sport also earned him recognition at the international level, as he earned 3 caps for the Ecuadorian national team, making his debut in a friendly against Iraq in November 2023.
