Lee Stetson Cause of Death Rhode Island: Family and friends mourn the loss of Lee Stetson
Willis “Lee” J. Stetson Jr. passed away on July 31, 2024, at the age of 82 in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
Born on September 8, 1941, he had a distinguished career in college admissions, serving as the Dean of Admissions at the University of Pennsylvania for 29 years until his retirement in 2007.
Stetson was known for significantly increasing diversity and international representation at Penn, with applications tripling under his leadership. Before joining Penn, he was the admissions director at the University of Delaware, where he also completed his undergraduate degree in 1963.
A Vietnam veteran, Stetson initially taught high school history before transitioning to admissions. Throughout his career, he mentored many in the field, consulted internationally, and served on several educational boards.
He is survived by his wife, Sally, daughter Lindsey, and other family members.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for October 2, 2024, at St. Mary’s Church on Penn’s campus.
