Born on May 2, 1964, Julie Suzanne Walton McCormick was the sixth generation of her family in Northwest Georgia. Her parents were Joseph Lanier Walton and Mary Duanne Self Walton.
She graduated from Coosa High School in 1982 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Berry College in 1986, later obtaining a Master of Science degree in biology from Georgia Southern University in 1990.
Her summers were spent conducting research at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory in Maine. Julie began her teaching career at East Rome High School, later teaching at Rome High School and Armuchee High School, where she taught high school biology. In 1993, she married Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Lane McCormick, with whom she shared a loving 31-year marriage.
After a brief hiatus to focus on family, she returned to teaching at Saint Mary’s Catholic School, where she taught Earth Science, biology, and physical science for 15 years. As a beloved teacher, Julie profoundly impacted the lives of her students, providing unwavering support and encouragement throughout their lives.
