Joshua McCoy Missing North Bend, OR: 5-Year-Old Boy Went Missing Over The Weekend, Oregon Officials Open Search

Authorities in Coos County, Oregon, are intensifying their search efforts to locate Joshua James McCoy, a 5-year-old boy with autism who was reported missing over the weekend.

The young boy was last seen on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Hauser, an unincorporated community along Route 101. An Amber Alert has been issued, and law enforcement agencies are urging the public to assist in locating the child, who has special needs and may not respond to his name.

Joshua was reported missing after his mother awoke from a brief nap and discovered he was gone from their home. Local authorities immediately responded to the call and have since expanded the search to include multiple law enforcement and rescue teams.

Given the terrain around Hauser, which includes dense woodlands and waterways, search and rescue personnel are using a combination of ground teams, drones, and K-9 units in their efforts.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating the search alongside the Oregon State Police, who activated an Amber Alert soon after receiving the report. Authorities are focusing on the areas surrounding Route 101, nearby trails, and other spots where Joshua may have wandered.

Given his young age and autism, officials are particularly concerned about his safety, especially as nighttime temperatures drop in the area. At a press briefing, Sheriff’s Office representatives highlighted the urgency of the situation.

Joshua is a vulnerable child who requires additional care. We are doing everything possible to bring him home safely and are asking anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact us immediately,” stated a spokesperson.

As the search for Joshua McCoy continues, community volunteers are encouraged to aid the search efforts but are advised to coordinate with officials to prevent interference with professional search teams. Local residents are asked to check their properties, sheds, and any areas where a child might seek shelter.

Joshua McCoy is described as a 5-year-old boy with autism. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt and gray sweatpants. His family and the community hold hope for his safe return, with search efforts intensifying each hour. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
