Qudir D. Blackwell Obituary-Death News; Minneapolis Teen Qudir Blackwell Dies in Accidental Shooting; 14-Year-Old in Custody
A 13-year-old boy has tragically lost his life following an accidental shooting at a Minneapolis residence in the early hours of November 5, 2024. Minneapolis police arrived on the scene in the 2400 block of North Ferrant Place around 1:30 a.m. to find the young victim, identified as Qudir D. Blackwell, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred when a 14-year-old boy was handling a firearm that unexpectedly discharged, striking Blackwell. Despite efforts from first responders, Blackwell was pronounced dead on the scene.
The teen responsible for handling the gun was present at the time and was subsequently taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.
In addition to the two boys, two adult women and other juveniles were reportedly in the home during the incident. Investigators are now focused on determining how the teenager accessed the firearm and the events leading up to the tragic accident. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara addressed the community, emphasizing the tragedy’s gravity and the urgent need for proper gun storage. “The death of a child is always incredibly troubling and tragic,” O’Hara said.
“Our investigators will work diligently to answer the many questions we have. In addition to supporting the families impacted by this tragedy, everyone must make every effort to ensure that every gun is securely stored.”
