Rhomesha Turner Obituary-Death News; 34, killed During Brother’s Funeral Procession In Dixmoor

A woman died in Dixmoor on Saturday, 34-year-old Rhomesha Turner was fatally shot while participating in a funeral procession for her brother, Chevelle Carter, who was recently killed.

Turner’s death marks a heartbreaking second loss for her family within just two weeks.

Dixmoor Police Chief Lionel Smith reported that officers were called to 147th Street and Seeley Avenue at 12:01 p.m., where they found Turner’s white Jaguar SUV had crashed into a home.

Inside, police discovered Turner had sustained gunshot wounds. Turner, a well-known stylist, sister, and mother from Calumet Park, was transported to UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The funeral procession had just departed St. Mark’s Church in Harvey before the incident occurred. Evidence of the crash remained at the scene, with tire marks on the grass and damage to the homeowner’s property.

Turner’s brother, Chevelle Carter, had been shot and killed just days earlier on October 19 in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. Witnesses reported seeing two gunmen flee the scene in a white vehicle following the 8:40 p.m. shooting. The connection between the two events has prompted speculation, with some indicating it may have been an act of retaliation.

Dixmoor Police and Illinois State Police continue their investigation, working to determine the identity of the shooter and the sequence of events that led to this devastating loss.
