Frederick Coonan Obituary-Death News; 78-Year-Old Frederick Coonan Killed in Preston Single-Vehicle Crash

A single-vehicle crash on Sunday evening tragically claimed the life of 78-year-old Frederick Coonan, a resident of North Grosvenordale. Connecticut State Police reported that the accident occurred around 8:10 p.m. near Route 164 and Deerbrook Road.

According to authorities, Coonan’s vehicle veered off the roadway, crossing into the southbound lane before entering the shoulder. He continued a short distance along the shoulder before the vehicle struck a tree, resulting in a severe impact. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to rotate, ultimately coming to a stop with significant damage.

Coonan was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no other individuals or vehicles were involved in the incident.

State police are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash, though no additional details have been provided about potential contributing factors. Authorities will assess whether speed, road conditions, or a medical emergency may have played a role in Coonan’s departure from the roadway.

The area around Route 164 and Deerbrook Road was closed for a time as first responders worked to clear the scene and gather evidence. Traffic resumed later in the evening, but the incident has left the community shaken, especially for residents who frequently travel that stretch of road.

State police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Troop E at 860-848-6500. Investigators hope additional accounts might provide clarity on what led to the accident.

This incident marks another somber reminder of the importance of safety and awareness on the roads, especially for elderly drivers. The Connecticut community mourns the loss of Frederick Coonan and extends condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
